Are YouTube Shorts Monetized? Oh Yes!

Multi format content creation is the future. And here is how YouTube is now assisting creators to monetize the new and happening format – YouTube Shorts:

Here’s how it’ll work:

  • Beginning in early 2023, current and future YPP creators will be eligible for revenue sharing on Shorts.
  • In Shorts, ads run between videos in the Shorts Feed. So, every month, revenue from these ads will be added together and used to reward Shorts creators and help cover costs of music licensing.
  • From the overall amount allocated to creators, they will keep 45% of the revenue, distributed based on their share of total Shorts views. The revenue share remains the same, no matter if they use music or not.

  2. Differentiate between short format and long format content, make sure each format has its own value proposition
  3. Shorts is a great method to drive subscribers for the channel
  4. While shooting your hero/hub content, make sure you have some vertical format content as well suited for Shorts format
  5. Analytics is key here as well and hence keep a close eye on those numbers, the dashboard now separately shows you the views and subscribers gained from shorts only, use this information to define the content strategy for your channel!
